uena Vista Winery, founded in 1857, has a rich and unrivaled heritage as the first premium — and certainly the most colorful — of all of the wineries in California. Its founder, Agoston Haraszthy, the self-proclaimed “Count of Buena Vista,” was a vivacious and eccentric pioneer with a veritable love and unending commitment to California wine.
Just as we know today, the Count understood that great wine comes not only from great grapes, but also from great places. He chose the southernmost part of Sonoma Valley to build his winery due to the ideal location and ability to stretch his more than 6,000-acre estate into parts of Sonoma and Napa. Both regions offer a unique terroir — the magical combination of all the attributes required to create outstanding wines of a particular site — from the soil and the climate to the site’s exposure to the sun and the vine itself.
Buena Vista wines are the finest expression of true varietal character, with great acidity, balance and structure. Their personality reflects the region's abundant stylistic diversity across the tiers: Founder’s Collection, Private Reserve, Vinicultural Society, Heritage Collection, The Count, Chateau Buena Vista and North Coast.
et your palate explore one of the most sought-after wine regions in the world and enjoy the finest, hand-crafted Buena Vista wines delivered directly to your door.

he story of our founder is as long as it is colorful. One of California’s first sheriffs, Agoston Haraszthy was elected the Sheriff of San Diego County in 1850. He built the first jail and served two exciting years before moving north to pursue purple gold and the perfect terroir for fine wines. He found it in Sonoma County where he established Buena Vista Winery in 1857. It is his legacy that inspired this wine and the work of sheriffs everywhere that we honor with its release.
ust as we know today, the Count of Buena Vista understood that great wine comes not only from great grapes, but also from great places. tribute to some of the iconic wine styles from around the world that Agoston Haraszthy himself assisted in propagating in California. In the early days of Buena Vista, and what would become the Vinicultural Society, The Count and his son Arpad were commissioned by the Californian government to travel throughout Europe and bring back vine cuttings. After months of travel, they succeeded in bringing back over 487 different varieties, modern winemaking techniques, and styles that would go on to influence the likes of Charles Krug and many others.
ith its roots so deeply ensconced in the foundations of California’s coastal appellations, Buena Vista Winery is again introducing wines from the North Coast.
